AB OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of drama in disseminating
AIDS/STD information among in and out of school youths. METHOD: Baseline
KABP survey on AIDS/STD/ was conducted among sample of in and out of
school youths in Freetown. Formation of STOP AIDS drama clubs in
selected schools and implementation of drama performances for youths.
Collection of data on condom supplies to youths from the AIDS Control
Programme Secretariat, Family Planning clinics January-December 1993.
RESULT: Following a series of drama performances on AIDS/STD, the demand
for condoms among youths increased by over 70% compared to the base line
figures obtained during the same period 1992. CONCLUSION: Drama is a
very powerful communication channel through which AIDS/STD education can
be effectively disseminated among in and out of school youths and helps
to promote behaviour change.
